DescriptionThis object specifies whether ifIndex values persist across reinitialization of the device. ifIndex persistence means that the mapping between the ifDescr object values and the ifIndex object values will be retained across reboots. Applications such as device inventory, billing, and fault detection depend on the maintenance of the correspondence between particular ifIndex values and their interfaces. During reboot or insertion of a new card, the data to correlate the interfaces to the ifIndex may become invalid in absence of ifIndex persistence feature. ifIndex persistence for an interface ensures ifIndex value for the interface will remain the same after a system reboot. Hence, this feature allows users to avoid the workarounds required for consistent interface identification across reinitialization. Due to change in syntax, this object is deprecated by cieIfIndexGlobalPersistence.
